Main ComponentsLeaves contain rutin, quercetin, isoquercitrin, quercetin-3-triglucoside, trace β-sitosterol, campesterol, β-sitosterol-β-D-glucoside, lupeol, meso-inositol, ecdysterone and inokosterone (insect metamorphosis hormones), hemolysin, chlorogenic acid. Volatile oil components include acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, isobutyric acid, valeric acid, isovaleric acid, caproic acid, isocaproic acid, methyl salicylate, guaiacol, phenol, o-cresol, m-cresol, eugenol, etc. Also contains oxalic acid, fumaric acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, succinic acid, palmitic acid, ethyl palmitate, hentriacontane, hydroxycoumarin, sucrose, fructose, glucose, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and other amino acids. Plant MorphologyMost leaves are curled and broken; intact leaves are ovate or broadly ovate, 8-13 cm long and 7-11 cm wide, with acute apex, serrated edges (sometimes irregularly lobed), and truncate, rounded or cordate base. The upper surface is dark green with slight luster and fine hairs along the veins; the lower surface is lighter in color, with prominent veins, reticulate small veins, and dense fine hairs. Brittle and easy to break. Odorless; taste mild, slightly bitter and astringent. Preferred leaves are intact, large, thick, and yellowish-green.
