Cymes at stem apex or on branches; bracts small, membranous, lanceolate, apex acute; calyx 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate or triangular-ovate, about 2 mm long, pubescent; corolla pinkish or pale purple, campanulate, lower part tubular, upper part 5-lobed, with 5 coronae at base inside corolla, nectaries on disk margin; stamens 5, anthers poricidal; pistil 1, stigma 2-lobed, green. Follicles long-horned, yellowish-brown with purplish blush when mature, 10–15 cm long, 3–4 mm in diameter, dehiscing along thick veins when ripe, releasing seeds. Seeds numerous, yellowish-brown, approximately jujube-stone-shaped, with a tuft of white slender hairs at apex. Flowering period: June–July. Fruiting period: August–September (Northwest, Northeast China). |
