Morphological Features	An annual or biennial herb of the genus Silybum, which can grow up to 1.2 meters tall. The stem is erect with ribs, rarely unbranched. Both sides of the leaves are the same color (green) with white spots and thin texture. The capitula (flower heads) are large; the outer and middle involucral bracts are broadly spoon-shaped, elliptical, long rhombic to lanceolate, glabrous, hard and leathery. The florets are reddish-purple, rarely white, with short and broad filaments. The achenes are flattened, and the pappus is multi-layered, bristle-like, and white.
