| Plant Morphology | Annual herb, 1-3m tall. Stem erect, sturdy, with well-developed central pith, covered with thick stiff setae.
Leaves: Alternate, long-stalked; blades broad-ovate or cordate-ovate, 10-30cm+ long, 8-25cm wide, apex acuminate/acute, base cordate/truncate, margin coarsely serrate, both sides rough-hairy, with 3 veins.
Inflorescence: Solitary terminal capitulum, up to 35cm in diameter; involucral bracts ovate/ovate-lanceolate, apex caudate-acuminate, covered with long stiff setae.
Flowers: Female ray florets golden-yellow, sterile; bisexual tubular florets brown/purple, fertile; receptacle flat; bracteoles membranous.
Fruits: Achenes obovate or ovate-oblong, slightly flattened, light gray/black; pappus with 2 scale-like awns, deciduous.
